Last week, Jennifer Marcum opened Joyride Electric Bike Rentals at 108 Gordon Avenue, across the street from the Chamber of Commerce.
Joyride opened just in time, because all four days of spring have dissolved into those dog, dog days of summer and it’s only the beginning. Marcum invites everyone to come cool off at Joyride and experience her electric bikes and bike products.
“We’re right next to the park,” she says, “so we also want moms and dads with strollers, people on regular bikes, to come in and take a break.”
On June 8, in fact, Joyride’s Facebook featured a retired Marine who had stopped by the shop on his bike that he’d ridden to Thomasville from New Mexico (Sir, If you’re reading this, thank you for your service and HOW IS THAT PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE?).
For $12 an hour, you can rent an electric bike and cruise at a cool 24 miles an hour, without breaking a sweat. The bikes have a range of 40 miles per charge.
Marcum will be offering half-off hourly rates in the summer on weekdays, she says. If you live in the Thomasville why not walk over and trade in your car for a day? A six-hour rental would be $36 and include two additional hours. For 8 hours, you could electric bike to your errands and appointments. It’s eco-friendly and you‘ll experience so much more outside of the hermetically sealed bubble of your car.
Marcum also carries many cyclist items that are not carried anywhere near Thomasville. “The center of bike culture is in California,” she says. Joyride has socks, helmets, and bags plus kids products for cyclists of all experience levels.
Marcum was raised in Thomasville, graduated from Thomasville High and has a husband, Steve, and Daughter, Katie. It seemed like a no-brainer for her to have opened Joyride. The new bike trail system is coming soon and Marcum is right when she says it’s already easy to bike the bricks.
For questions, visit the shop at 108 Gordon Avenue, call (229) 236-2453 or find Joyride Electric Bike Rentals on Facebook.
