Forget that “Holiday Gift Guide” you found on Pinterest. These “gifts” offer more than something physical! They offer hope, love, and joy. After all, isn’t that what the Christmas season is all about? This season, take some time to spread the Christmas spirit by giving back to those in need.
Every year the sound of jingling bells fills the air as the Salvation Army makes it way to begin accepting donations for the local community programs including the Emergency Family Services, the Emergency Food Pantry, the Women and Children’s Transitional Shelter, and the Youth Mentoring Programs. Interested in supporting this endeavor? Instead of tossing spare change into the red kettle, volunteer to serve! According to the Salvation Army, kettle donations increase by 35% when volunteers stand a kettle.
- This year, the kettle season runs from November 12th – December 24th.
- Please contact the Salvation Army’s office at 229 226-3772 if you would like to donate your time.
Every child deserves to be filled with joy on Christmas morning. Help make that possible this year by participating in the Angel Tree program! Through the support of generous donors like yourself, The Salvation Army is able provide new clothing and/or toys for thousands of children in need each Christmas. Found in local businesses and corporations, Christmas trees are adorned with paper angel tags that contain a child’s first name, age, and gender. With each small tag representing their hopes and wishes, you can make a difference in a child’s life this Christmas.
- For more information or to adopt an Angel, contact the Salvation Army’s main office at (229) 226-3772.
For kids who are in need of love and safety, The Vashti Center is the perfect environment. However, putting smiles on all of those little faces wouldn’t be possible without the help of sponsors and volunteers! Vashti is currently seeking businesses and families to sponsor one or more of their 30+ children in need this Christmas. The sponsorship of $300 allows Vashti to purchase their winter necessities, plus a few “fun” items on the child’s wish list.
If you have some extra shopping time available, consider shopping for Vashti. Since some sponsors are not able to physically shop for the child in need, The Vashti Center is also seeking volunteers to brave the Christmas shopping crowds!
After all the “hard work” is completed, celebrate Christmas with the youth! On Thursday, December 17th 6pm-7pm. Join Vashti residents, mentors, Christmas sponsors, and volunteers for refreshments, drinks, and of course holiday cheer!
- Interested in being a Christmas Sponsor? Please contact Susan O’Neal at (229) 226-4634.
- The Vashti Center is currently located at 1815 E Clay St, Thomasville, GA 31792.
