Early retirement for the Murrays leads to a successful (and unorthodox) new career
Every morning for nearly two years now, Nick and Allison Murray — along with their daughter and son — wake up to something they talked about doing upon retiring but didn’t quite anticipate making a living out of it so early in their lives.
They own 36 dairy goats and produce fresh chevre that’s distributed to several local restaurants and shops in Thomas County and north Florida.
“I was on track to retire early after working in corporate America,” says Nick, who was a chief financial officer at Senior Life Insurance Co. in Thomasville. “We thought and talked about having goats on our land in Brooks County, and we’d piddle with making cheese while we traveled.”
But retirement came a little earlier than expected for the family.
