A record-setting 19 young ladies to compete for the title of 2016 Thomasville Rose Queen!
An exceptional group of nineteen young women from local Thomas County high schools will compete for the title of Thomasville Rose Queen 2016 on Saturday, March 26th at 7:00pm in the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium. Part of the 95th Annual Rose Show and Festival, the Thomasville Rose Queen Pageant is a scholarship competition for local high school juniors.
“The Rose Queen Pageant process teaches these young women a variety of skills they can use in the real world,” says April Norton, Director of Main Street. “Through public speaking and community service, intelligence and poise, presentation both on stage and off, the young ladies who compete must embody all of the values that Thomasville holds so highly. Each contestant is committed to growing as an individual as well as a representative of our community.”
Tickets for the Pageant are $5 each and are available at the Thomasville Visitors Center (144 East Jackson Street) and at the door. “With so many outstanding young women competing in this year’s Pageant, we anticipate this event being a sell-out,” says Norton.
Mrs. Karla Heath-Sands will be this year’s mistress of ceremonies. “We’re very excited to welcome Mrs. Heath-Sands to the stage this year,” says Norton. “She brings a great energy to everything she does, including her singing- which we will also be treated to during the Rose Queen Pageant.”
An esteemed panel of judges will be carefully reviewing each contestant during the competition. “The judges are obviously an extremely important aspect of the Pageant,” says Norton. “The Pageant always features four experienced judges and one novice judge, who is new to the judging process. This enables a variety of opinions and points-of-view to be represented throughout the scoring process.”
This year’s Pageant judges will be:
Walter Hill– Chief Executive Officer of Wiregrass United Way
Maggie Bridges Kearney– 2014 Miss Georgia Winner
Bernice Bias– Affiliate of Miss Georgia Pageant
Mansfield Bias, Jr. – Affiliate of Miss Georgia Pageant
Pam Carter– Miss Georgia Board of Directors Member
